"I was amazed at how Liz was able to work with certain clients, even the non-verbal individuals!" - Donna B. Director of Activities for Transitions Care
Therapeutic Movement
Along with music and art therapy, Therapeutic Movement (TM) provides immense benefits, which can effectively treat a wide range of emotional and physical challenges. Dancing is a primal response to rhythm and music, so TM uses the dancer’s techniques to help patients to become more in touch with the different physical and emotional dimensions of themselves using non-verbal, movement-oriented techniques. Patients are made aware of their feelings through sensation and movement, integrating body and mind. As it is non verbal TM can often overcome resistance to discussing emotionally charged issues that may be encountered in talk therapy.
Among the goals of TM is to build the self-esteem and self-identity of clients dealing with emotional issues. A premise of TM is that the body and mind are interrelated, and that the state of the body can affect mental and emotional wellbeing both positively and negatively. In contrast to artistic dance, which is usually concerned with the aesthetic appearance of movement, TM explores the nature all movement.
A vital connection exists between personality and the way in which one moves, and that changes in movement affects the emotional, intellectual, and physical health of the individual. TM is a body-based therapy grounded in the relationship between physical movement and mental and emotional functioning, using movement analysis and dance techniques to enhance functioning.
Dance Party
This is a fun way to uplift the spirit and move the body. These events engage the individuals socially and also allow them to move naturally with their bodies, all while being entertained with good music and a team of entertainers that are passionate about bringing joy to the audience. We will work with you to tailor the event to meet the desires and needs of your group. We highly recommend adding a theme to your event, such as "Senior Prom", "The Golden Age", "State Fair" or any other themes around specific global/cultural influence. |
Cultural Experience
These are pretty popular as folks love to participate in something new (or relive again). From Spanish, to Middle Eastern, to Asian- we bring music, movement and smiles! Our Cultural Experiences can be in the form of an interactive movement and instrumental workshop. Or it can be purely done as an amazing performance with the possible addition of an educational component. |
Types of Movement Therapy
With over a decade of experience in various forms of Middle Eastern dance, Liz is able to adapt many of these exercises, to match with a range of abilities and motion. She works to ensure these movements are the right fit for the participating individual(s). Why Middle Eastern style? The postures and motions in this art form work comfortably and naturally with the body, and can be easily adapted for a particular session or focus. These sessions are not limited to just Middle Eastern influences, other inspired styles can be introduced to enhance the session. |
